I like paranormal, thriller, mystery, drama, human interest, intrigue etc. Let's face it most books. I do not read most science fiction but do make exceptions. I never read erotica, or extreme gore/ and language. I can only read one to two books weekly and review when writing myself. If you like books set in Victorian times like Anne Perry's then this book is for you. The detail that Victoria Thompson puts into the world of the turn of the century New York takes you on a journey deep into this story until you feel you are really there. Book number seven in the Gaslight series.

The rich life of turn of the century New York comes alive in this book as Sarah Brandt (who has turned her back on the high society she was born to and works as a midwife) is juggling being a mother to her new ward Aggie, a young, mute orphan she found at a mission and is working on a relationship with Detective Frank Malloy who has a son who is a deaf mute. Behind the scenes Frank is trying to solve the murder of her husband Tom Brandt he is afraid that what he might find may tarnish Sarah’s memories of her husband. While working as a midwife Sarah is summoned back into upper crust society to aid a handicapable young girl Grace who someone has taken advantage of. As Sarah seeks to find out that mystery of who has perpetrated this crime she finds a new mystery to solve a new murder the murder of Reverend Oliver Upchurch in whose church Grace was taken advantage of. This mystery has a rich story and a easy flow as it leads to the conclusion of the mystery.
This book is fun interesting and exciting mystery an exceptional read.You'll want to read all in this series.
