This book also offers the reader a number of suspects for the attempted murder mystery that will keep the reader guessing until the end of the story.

An exceptionally interesting, captivating, suspense read that will keep the reader spellbound as they won’t be able to put this book down. .

I love a good cosy novel to curl up and take me away to another world and this novel didn’t disappoint. With a wry sense of humour and wacky, fun characters, Ms. Winston introduces you to the character of Anastasia Pollack and her mad cap family who all live with her. Her mother who collects husbands because they all die on her, and her Mother in law who spouts communists views and blames everything on people being anti- communist including her husband’s disappearance when her son was a child. Her two teenage son aren't much help around the house as most young men aren't. and poor Anastasia is facing financial ruin because of her recently deceased husband .Her husband dropped dead while gambling all their money away, and their teenage son’s college funds. If that wasn’t bad enough Anastasia finds her boss murdered in her office  and it looks like someone has set her up for the fall. Then she starts getting calls from someone threatening her life and those of her children of she doesn’t pay the 50g’s her husband owes. I won’t tell you anymore of the story but this book is delight from start to finish. Bits of  humour and great writing makes this a cosy you’ll love to read.

Review Destiny Repeats Twice by Eri Nelson

With a mix of ancient Greek tales of God’s and good old fashion storytelling, Eri Nelson takes the reader into the story of Isabella Tulley. Isabella now over eighteen is labouring under the apprehension that she is an everyday normal person but as she soon to find out she is not she is actually a Demi -God. She is the daughter of Gaia and a human. She was created to fight a God, Gailen who is ut of control and killing Gods. With her sister, goddess Meg , and Aiden Black they skip ahead in time to stay ahead of Gailen and give Izzy time to learn how to fight. Izzy is terrified and angry about the position she has been born into but she accepts her role and tries to accomplish her task. She learns to control her abilities so she can fulfill her destiny.

The story is an interesting take on Goddesses and Gods and what motivates their actions. I would have liked more romance in the book and less of the violence shown to Izzy for something that was beyond her control (her birth) but all and all it was a good story.

     Tangi is a wonderful fairy tale based on a true story of strength of character and courage. When I read the book I had no idea of the true story behind it but I can see the writers own experiences gave her the ability to tell us in a way that we understood the suffering of this child.

    Tangi’s life has been miserable while her father was alive she could put up with the teasing and the cruel taunts about her one  leg  being shorter than the other and even put up with having no friends but now him gone she has nothing. Her two older half-sisters have escalated their cruelness and are now getting servants to harm her and make her act as Cinderella. She must do all the chores all the work only to watch them eat as they don’t even feed her and if that’s not bad enough they beat her. Tangi doesn’t know who to turn to, she can’t tell her Uncle Thomas when he returns for fear of someone else being harmed. Tangi then dreams of the world of her mother. In this world she can escape the pain and the tears that are filling up in the three bottles her father left her. .She is told she is needed there and is the only one who can save Rosevine but to get there she needs her bottles of tears but she can’t find them they aren’t where she left them. This book made me see vividly the character of Tangi and weep for the child so cruelly treated and like any good fairy tale gave me goosebumps and made me smile.  I won’t tell you anymore of this enchanting story other than to say read this book it’s charming. If you enjoy a good fairy tale or the show such as “Once Upon A Time” you will love Tangi’s Teardrops.

Fourteen year old Lelea hears music and a dragons call that others don’t so she is considered strange and perhaps mentally handicapped from the nanos that were planted in her brain at age three to make her a super soldier. She is however a Dreamwalker who hears the dragons call. Her father the General sucks the life out of his people with oppression and killings to extend his own life. The General uses both of his daughters Lelea and Jadon as super soldiers to get whom and what he wants. Lelea is tired of the killings the pain of her wounds and the pain of her people. She wants to heed the dragon’s call and save the dragon’s eggs so her world can change. Then her world can be the colourful world of her dreams, where food is plentiful and the people enjoy blue skies and greenery but to do so is fraught with grave danger. First she and her older sister Jadon must escape the bonds their father has placed on them. They steal and ship and find stowaways on board. Aren who Lelea has dreamed will help her find the eggs and is also connected to the dragon and Jaak and Chester who are needed to help with the dangerous journey into the past to save the Dragon’s eggs .I won’t tell you any more other than to tell you it is a journey worthy of “Lord of the Rings” as the participants are forced to bond together because of the situations and yet have temptations to betray each other. This story is a story of love rebirth and redemption and I truly enjoyed it’s telling.

Pursuit of a Dream is a rich deeply layer story of action that begins with a child,(Caleb Lockhardt’s) dream, of becoming a race car driver. The author paints a lovely picture of a loving supportive Christian family with the normal family disagreements, triumphs and tragedies. You identify deeply with the rich characters in this book. I didn’t know a lot about NASCAR or even car racing going into reading this but this writer carefully explained it so well that even a non- viewer like me could understand exactly how these car races were run and how the driver can win.  Readers will truly enjoy the transition of Caleb from young boy to a focused adult with NASCAR racing on his mind. I know I want to read the next book and see where Caleb’s dream will take him further and I’m sure other readers will too.

Review -Burnt Lake

I have to preface this review with the fact that although I use to read a lot of science fiction in my teens, somewhere along the line I lost most of my interest in it. However a good apocalypse story can really peak my interest as this story does.

Burnt Lake is a short story about Mike who wants to be prepared in case he ever needs survivalist techniques. Mike is a tech junkie, a programmer but he prefers the wilderness to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. He goes into the wilderness of northern Ontario, to try out his survivalist techniques and while he is sleeping he is transported into a nightmarish future with no technology and man struggling to exist without it.  I don’t want to give too much away about the story so I’ll stop there. Mr. Brown certainly weaves an interesting story although it does take some patience to get to the bones of the story. I’d love to see a revisit to this story by this author of a longer nature and more of Amanda and Rain, but I feel this story is an interesting and compelling read of a future that could very well happen. This writer shows a lot of promise for future offerings from this author.

     First of all I have to say what a refreshing idea for a story this was as the main character Hunter Gamble  is a lawyer for the “supernaturals” or as the politically correct term in this story the “Arcanes”.In the vein of a Charlaine Harris novel the Arcanes  (Werewolves Mage, Vampires and Zombies)are out in the world and people are either accepting of them or terrified. The character of Hunter is a extremely focused lawyer and all around good guy that you really admire and like. The other characters are also well defined and enjoyable as well. There’s Kristen his colleague who is a whiz at finding helpful points of law but who is painfully shy, so she usually let’s Hunter present the cases in court. Then there is Sabrina Orr a new teenage client. At first annoying but she grows on you as only an emotionally developing teenager can.

As the story progresses Hunter is in the fight of his life when he has to defend a zombie from a murder charge. The district attorney Boyer wants to unseat Boone who wants to pass a law about the arcane and if he has to make an example of Hunter’s client to win, he’ll do it. Hunter also has the Salvation Alliance (the anti-arcane faction) gunning for him and his colleagues because of his defense of the arcane. I won’t tell you any more of the story because I don’t want to spoil it. However if you enjoy a good paranormal story or any or all of the TV series and/ or movie series ,True Blood, the Walking Dead and or the quirky Shaun of the dead you’ll enjoy this book from the prospective of their defence lawyer. This is an engrossing book that I just had to continue reading until its conclusion.
